6th Form Football

Wednesday afternoon saw Southam 6th form travel to North Leamington School for the first round of the cup.
The team looked a lot more composed and started the game brightly with Leighton almost scoring inside the first minute. The back 4 continually won the first ball which allowed the central midfield of Fin, Owen and Finn to get on the ball. Southam should have taken the lead after a corner evaded all players with Lewis sliding in to send the ball over the bar. Southam did take the lead with the next corner when Riley gambled at the front post and nipped in ahead of the defender to flick the ball home. Southam nearly scored straight from kick off after a defensive mix up but the defender managed to clear the ball off the line.
Southam had the first chance of the 2nd half, a long ball from Jack bouncing over the defender but Chris was unable to lift the ball over the rushing goalkeeper. NLS nearly equalised but for fantastic defensive teamwork from Addison and Ben who somehow managed to prevent a goal from 4 yards! Strong defensive play from all players kept NLS at bay and Southam nearly added another after Lewis was allowed a free header off a great Chris delivery. The last 5 minutes Southam saw the game out with good tactical decision making to win the game 1-0 and progress into the next round.
2 men of the match this week. Finn Brown and Fin Purnell for outstanding performances in centre midfield.
A very pleased Mr Turton
