Sixth Form Football

Wednesday afternoon saw the Sixth Form Football team travel to Alcester Grammar School for their second fixture.

The team started well and played some good football often using the pace of the front 3 of Charlie, Chris and Layton.

Southam created their first chance of the afternoon after good work down the right side. The ball fell to Charlie who blazed over from close range!

Southam took the lead after a great through ball from Owen found Chris who rounded the goalkeeper and passed into an empty net. Alcester equalised almost immediately after a free kick wasn’t cleared properly allowing the striker a free shot at goal. AGS turned the game on it’s head despite Southam dominance and took the lead after a smart turn and neat finish past Jack who was excellent in goal. Half time 2-1 to Alcester.

Southam started the second half similar to the first with some good play which resulted in the equalising goal after a clever through ball from Chris found Riley who scored with a tremendous finish into the top corner. Southam went through the gears and grabbed another 2 quick goals to take hold of the game. The first was a header scored by Addison after a good delivery from a free kick which had been earned after good work from Fin. The second quick goal came from Riley who scored the pick of the goals with a fantastic individual effort beating 2 players before driving a low shot into the far corner.

Unfortunately, Southam conceded a third goal in the final minute after sloppy defending. This goal made it 4-3, a score line which suggests the game was closer than it ought to have been.

In the end a deserved 4-3 win for Southam. In all honesty, we should have scored more but a win is a win. Well done Gents.
