‘Wear it Pink’ – TODAY
Nearly all the sixth form and lots of teachers participated in the ‘wear it pink’ day to raise funds for Breast Cancer Research. Students were asked to donate £1 and wear anything pink, from socks to t-shirts and ties. Well done to everyone who took part and thanks to Leah Glattbach for arranging what was a fun day.
British Biology Olympiad
COMPETITION -Sixth Form Students
The British Biology Olympiad challenges and stimulates students with an interest in Biology to expand and extend their talents. In offering a wider syllabus than A-level, it allows students to demonstrate their knowledge and to be suitably rewarded and publicly recognised by the award of medals, certificates and other prizes. It is hoped that competing in the Olympiad will encourage students already interested in this valuable, wide-ranging and rewarding subject to continue their study beyond A-level.

Media Trip
Media students from Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 visited Warwick Arts Centre yesterday. The enthusiastic students listened to an examiner from the BBFC talk about film classification and then students watched a film to try and understand the classification process. The afternoon was part of the National Youth Film Festival and was an en enjoyable experience for all involved.

German Exchange – Stratford Visit
Today, the German students visited Stratford upon Avon, here we are outside Shakespeare’s Birthplace. They have learnt a little about William Shakespeare, had a sonnet read to them in English and in German and have visited the most haunted building in Stratford!
Looking forward to the leaving meal tonight. Please remember to bring some food, drinks and plates / cups / cutlery!
See you in the Hall at 6pm.
Miss Mulligan.

Age and Experience beats Youth and Optimism
Southam Staff defeated the Sixth Form in a competitive challenge match after school on Monday. The Sixth Form were full of optimism, and were confident of their chances, and they looked like they would be correct as they took a 2-0 lead through early goals by Joel Bennett and Taryn Skitt. The Staff team showed great resilience, and pulled two goals back through Mr Cross and Mr Turton to make it 2-2 at half time. The staff team took the lead near the end with a goal from Mr Cooper, but were made to defend their lead a number of times, with their goalkeeper Mr Lambdon pulling off some great saves. The staff welcomed the challenge of a rematch from the 6th form, but for now the bragging rights stay in the staff room!
Fund Raising – Teams4U
We are taking part in the Southam College / Teams4U visit to Romania in summer 2014. Whilst we are there we will be building a playground for the children in the Alparea Community. We will also be part of Teams4U empowerment programme which involves helping children stay in school for longer and get a better education as only 1 in 10 people can read or write. We need to raise £1500 each, we have a number of different fundraising events including the Coast to Coast in October half term, which is 143 miles and we will climb over 2700 metres! We are cycling from Whitehaven to Tynemouth over the Lake District and the North Pennines.
You can support us via our fundraising pages https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/elliepotter and https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/scarlettwakelin1 or we have our paper sponsor forms in school so come and find us!
Thanks in advance for your support,

A2 Biology – Practical
Excellent effort has been put together by the Science Department to complete A2 Biology Coursework Pratical this week. Students demonstrated brilliant organisation, punctuality and dedication to complete the experimentsskilfully. Practical skills are vital to understand the basics of life processes and are key to study higher level Biology. The students demonstrated the effect of Sodium Chloride concentrations in the activity of yeast cells in a professional manner. They definitely proved to be the young researchers! We are so proud of you Year 13!
