Apprentice Quantity Surveyor

Reporting to: Senior Commercial Manager
Purpose of job/basic function:
To assist the Quantity Surveyors with every aspect of successful valuation of projects to ensure monthly cash flow, whilst completing the Construction Quantity Surveying Technician Apprenticeship Level 4 (https://www.solihull.ac.uk/demographic/apprentices/category/construction/course/construction-quantity-surveying-technician-apprenticeship/).
Main Activities/Responsibilities:
- Understanding valuation/payment cycle.
- Basic understanding of contracts and obligations.
- Assisting with preparing and submitting monthly applications to Main Contractor.
- Regular site visits with QS.
- Chasing retentions.
- Dealing with small works orders.
- Gain an understanding of ‘cost to complete’ sheets and Causeway.
- Assisting with pricing of variations and posting on ‘cost to complete’ sheet and Causeway.
- Preparing for and attending ‘cost to complete’ meetings.
- Process placing of sub-contract labour only and supply and fix contracts.
- Assisting with raising payment certificates to ‘supply and fix’ sub-contractors.
- Managing own workload.
- Maintaining areas of work in a clean and tidy state.
Other Responsibilities:
- Acting as an ambassador/exemplar of Alumet Systems and embracing/supporting/promoting the Company culture and values.
- Seeking and developing ongoing continuous improvement.
- To comply with any objectives/targets/KPIs given.
- To comply with all Company policies including Alumet’s Health & Safety and Environmental/Sustainability Policies.
- Any other duties relevant to the role or as determined by the Manager.
Training & Development:
- Attending college as required for your Apprenticeship (day-release at Solihull College & University Centre).
- Attending any internal/external training courses relevant to the role or as required by the Company.
- Ongoing personal development.
Knowledge/Experience/Attributes:
- You will need a minimum of five GCSEs )at Grade 9/A* to 4/C, including Maths, English Language and ICT); alternatively, you should possess 1 A Level, or 2 AS Levels (40 UCAS points), or an equivalent qualification in a relevant subject.
