On 2nd March, seventeen year 12 and 13 A level language students went to London for the biannual English and Media Centre (EMC) conference on English Language.
Students were treated to 5 lectures by visiting Professors from Manchester, Essex, Sussex and Oxford Universities on topics as diverse as accent discrimination; the power of political language and why ‘The’ is the most important word in the English language… This was housed in the beautiful lecture hall of the Friends House in central London and allowed students to practise note taking ready for their own university courses alongside gaining richer insight into their current studies.
