Year 13  ‘Tips, Talks and Tapas’

On Thursday 5th December, we welcomed back five former Southam College students for our ‘Tips, Talks and Tapas’ event organised for the current Year 13 students. A huge thank you to Katie Andrews, Charlotte Woodward, Caitlin Thomas, Sam Walker and Miss Gregory for their time, effort and fantastic tips on how to succeed at A Level.

The former A+ grade students gave their expert advice, guidance and wise words from a real student perspective, divulging their A Level and University life experiences. Their previous A Level school work and revision tools were on display for the ‘Excellence Exhibition’ where students were able to informally chat and see their hard work in real life written format. There was an impressive amount of work to be seen, showing exceptional hard work setting the example to our current students.

The break out group ‘Masterclasses’ were planned and organised by the former students and a selection of teachers, where year 13 had the opportunity to visit workshops of their choice. There was a confidence & resilience workshop led by Mrs Thompson and myself, also tips on study & revision skills. A big thank you to Mrs Sharpe who led a session on exam technique, Mrs Savage, Mrs Patel, Mrs McCabe and Mrs Smith who all gave up their time to give subject specific based advice.

The ‘Tasty Tapas’ tables were well received by the students throughout the event, with a wide range of different platters including continental meats, olives, sun dried tomatoes, sausage rolls and other snacks available in each of the rooms. The cheese boards had over 10 different types of cheese! The event ended with a prize draw where the winner Hannah B received a £20 restaurant voucher but also other small gifts were awarded for the most detailed ‘Tapas Takeaway booklet’- well done to Holly R, Ben F and Elise A!

Seeing over 60 students stay behind after school until 5:30pm to get involved with this opportunity reminded us of just how dedicated, committed and conscientious this year group really are. We were extremely pleased to see such a brilliant turn out and students engaging with all elements of the event. We have every belief in each of the current year 13 students, you can do it! We hope you continue to stay focused, motivated and push yourselves to the limits this year!
