Wednesday afternoon saw the 6th form football team travel to AGS to play their 2nd fixture of the season. Southam started brightly and took control of the possession without really creating any chances. The first real chance fell to Morgan after tremendous work from Alfie down the left who crossed and clipped the bar, unfortunately the ball didn’t sit kindly for the rebound!
A slight defensive lapse allowed AGS a clean run in on goal but Oz kept the score at 0-0 with a fine save. Southam did take the lead after Riley was fouled after a good winner. The resulting free kick was taken by Owen who put the ball on a plate for Addison to head back across goal for a 1-0 lead. Southam has further chances most notably my falling to Owen who hit a speculative shot from 30 yards just wide and also Alfie who shot over after good work from Fin. AGS missed the best chance to equalise after missing a header from 6 yards. Half time score 1-0.
Southam started the 2nd half very well and created the first chance. Zack drove through midfield before a neat through ball to Riley who couldn’t keep his shot on target. Riley then got the ball in the net only for the referee to disallow the strike for an earlier infringement. George M produced some magic down the right side and unleashed a shot which was deflected into the path of Riley who made no mistake from 8 yards. 2-0. Addison swapped with Oz to go in goal due to injury allowing Oz to play outfield. Oz immediately got on the ball and slipped a pass to Alfie who was then fouled in the box. Oz stepped up and smashed the penalty home to make the score 3-0.
A much improved performance on last week, made more impressive by only having 11 players.
Man of the match goes to Alfie for a tremendous debut on the left wing!
The 6th form host Higham Lane next Wednesday in the ESFA cup.
Well done gents
