This afternoon the sixth form netball squads travelled across to Alcester Grammar for another thrilling fixture.
The A team had a really tough battle throughout. The first quarter was going goal for goal with Marie and Madi shooting well, but in the last few minutes AGS snuck out to a 8-5 lead. Alice D and Amy battled in the circle in the second quarter keeping the deficit to 3, half time score 16-13.
AGS came out firing in the second half, stretching the lead to 23-18 going into the last quarter. The girls battled to the end pulling back a turn over but unfortunately finished 28-24.
The B team had a strong start with both teams scoring goal for goal. AGS took an early lead after a few interceptions but Southam kept working hard. Grace and Molly shot incredibly well throughout and this continued into the second quarter.
Georgie, Claudia, Jodie and Alisha played brilliantly in the centre court and worked extremely hard to move the ball forward into attack. Ruby had a great game in defence and really pressured the AGS attack, thank you to Katie and Alice for stepping in in defence.
As the team went into the third quarter we were trailing by 4, but with consistent pressure and effort the team defended and attacked well and we won the quarter which put us back within 2. The final quarter was a lot quicker and although we had opportunities to attack AGS pulled away and finished leading the game 19-14.
A really exciting match with lots of positives, the team haven’t played together before and this was an excellent way to start their season. Well done!
