The 6th Form football team played their first fixture of the season today against a strong Kenilworth School side. In a new formation with both year 12’s and year 13’s playing alongside each other for the first time the first half was a scrappy affair with Kenilworth dominating the lions share of possession. Southam held strong until 2 minutes from half time when Kenilworth scored a header from close range. Kenilworth doubled their lead in the same minute with a good strike into the top corner! Half time 2-0.
Southam started the second half in a much more positive fashion and played some neat football with both wingers joining in the attacks. Unfortunately, we were hit on the counter attack twice which gave Kenilworth an undeserved 4-0 lead. This didn’t deter Southam, in fact it was now that we played our best football of the match with the Kenilworth goal keeper making great saves from Leighton Tongue, Lewis Timms and Chris Bailey. Southam eventually beat the Kenilworth keeper after good work in central midfield from Fin Purnell who played a well weighted pass through to Charlie King who slotted under the keeper. A much better second half performance but unfortunately the match ended in a 4-1 defeat. Man of the Match goes to Addison Smilie for a commanding display at Centre Back- well done.
REMINDER: Training for any 6th former who wishes to play for the school football team will take place on Wednesday Lunchtime on the Astro 12.35-13.10. Please make sure you attend!!
